Illinois American Legion Scholarship Program of graduating students of Illinois Senior High Schools. Twenty scholarships are $1000 each will be awarded  in March to be used at an accredited college, university, trade or technical school to further career education.  Each of the 5 Divisions in the Department will receive four scholarships.  Annual awards to residents of Illinois.  

Students must be graduating high school seniors and son or daughters or grandsons or granddaughters of members of The American Legion Illinois.  Awards will be based on academic and need.  Applications available September 15 and must be returned to Department Headquarters prior to March 15.  All questions must be answered.

One year $1000 Boy Scout Scholarship.  Four Runner-up awards, $200 each.   Students must be graduating high school senior, a qualified Senior Boy Scout or Explorer, and a resident of Illinois.  Must write a 500 word essay on Legion's Americanism and Boy Scout programs. American Legion Oratorical Contest.  Tuition scholarship of 1st Place - $1600,  2nd Place - $1300,  3rd Place $1200, 4th Place - $1000, 5th Place - $1000.  And Five (5) awards for second place in each Division - $150 each.  3rd Place - $100, 4th Place - $75  Three awards for each District - First place $125, Second Place $100., & Third place $75.   Students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades of any accredited high school in Illinois.  Speech contests begin after October 15 at the Post level and continue unitl January 15 deadline then goes on to District in February and then on to the Division on to Department.  The winner of the Department goes on to the National Contest.   Local American Legion Post or Department Headquarters:

American Essay Contest Scholarship awards from $75 to $50 depending on grade level.   Students in 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades of any accredited Illinois high school.  Must write a 500-word essay on selected topic.  Deadline February 2nd.   Local American Legion Unit or American Legion Auxiliary
